When it comes to lawn care there are two types of people: the do it ourself-ers and the hire-it-out. Regardless of which group you fall into, lawn care and dogs requires attention. This is mainly due to noise – but it can also include anxiety of ‘stranger danger’ lawn maintenance workers.
Lawn Care and Dogs - The Sounds
A normal conversation averages about 60 decibels, whereas a lawn mower is generally maintained at 90 decibels. For perspective, a rock concert is 120 decibels. So, a lawn mower is about halfway as loud as a rock concert. A hedge trimmer is 103 decibels, a leaf blower is 99 decibels, and an edger is 86 decibels. Lawn equipment is loud.
Where Is Your Dog During Lawn Care?
This becomes important when we consider how loud lawn equipment is – and its potential impact to our dog’s hearing. If you are like us, our dogs are with us nearly everywhere we go. They sit outside and watch us tool around on our lawnmower – or watch the tree company chainsaw branches down from an overgrown tree. Luckily, we use our patented dog earplug – because they work!
